TOURIST PLACES IN UDAIPUR

CITY PALACE, UDAIPUR

City palace is among the most beautiful tourist places in Udaipur operational between 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. The city palace is located on the banks of the lake Pichola. The heritage of this palace is very rich and beautiful, its towering structures built for the royal families of Mewar. The inside of this palace will amaze you with its mesmerising interior. Its mirror design wall made with broken pieces of glass gives such a unique dΓ©cor to the palace, its paintings, antique furniture and stone work will steal your heart. Inside the city palace there are many beautiful villas and palaces, including Amar villas, Bhim villas, Krishna villas, Moti mahal and manak mahal. This palace was constructed by Maharana Uday sing between 1729-1732. The main attraction of the city palace is “the Mewar light and sound show” in the evening. You need at least a day to explore the city palace. The entry fee for city palace is priced at Rs.100 for children and Rs.250 for adults.




LAKE PICHOLA

Pichola is among one of the beautiful lakes in Udaipur. The lake is opened for tourists between 9.00am to 6.00pm and for boating in lake Pichola the time is 10.00am to 5.00pm. This is one of the manmade wonders in Udaipur which is fully dominated by nature. It was created in 1362 AD. Later rana udai sing II extended it in 16th century. The islands in lake Pichola offer various tourist attractions. The lake is surrounded by hills, ghats and temples. The main attraction is sunset at lake Pichola. There are many gardens outside the lake, on the top of hills there you can enjoy the sunset. The lighting at night is such a beautiful and must-see view. Boat ridings are one of the thinks to do at lake Pichola. You will find many vendors selling locks at the lake side, and you will find many photographers who will offer you Rajasthani costumes for photographs. There is no entry fee to visit Lake Pichola. However, for a boat ride in Lake Pichola during daytime and afternoons, the tickets are priced at Rs. 400 for Adults and Rs. 200 for Children.



FATEH SAGAR LAKE

Fateh Sagar lake is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Udaipur. Opened for tourist between 9.00am to 6.00pm. The lake was built in 1687 by Maharana jai sing I. There is an island named Nehru Park is designed to offer exquisite beauty and splendour. The best time to visit Fateh Sagar Lake is evening and night. You will find a little rush in the evening and specially on weekends. There are many food stalls and balloon sellers. Boat ride at Fateh Sagar Lake is one of the things to do. People also can-do horse riding, camel riding. You can also rent a bicycle if you like. The entry fee to visit Nehru Garden for an Indian child and adult are Rs. 15 and Rs. 30 respectively. The ticket price for a foreign adult and child are Rs. 125 and Rs. 60 per person.



AMBRAI GHAT

Ambrai ghat or Manghi ghat is main ghat is a main ghat situated near the waterfront of lake Pichola. The best time to visit Ambrai ghat is 8.00 am to 4.00pm The way to Ambrai ghat is from old Udaipur. There are many old streets, that represents the beauty of old Udaipur. Ambrai ghat is a place where you can sit near the water and feel the peace of Udaipur. Specially in night. The lighting of the hotel which are situated in night, the lighting of the hotel which are situated on other side of lake will attract you. There you will find paintings on the wall which will show you how people of Udaipur put their faith in God. There you can also find the local boys of that street, jumping in the lake and if you are a good camera person you can better capture the screen in your camera for life long memories. There is no entry fee to visit Ambrai ghat.




GANGAUR GHAT

Gangaur ghat is among one of the most beautiful ghats of lake Pichola. Gangaur ghat is located in the old city and it is near Jagdish temple. Opened to tourists from 4.00am to 12.00pm. Gangaur ghat is famous for the festivals of Holi and Gangaur (Indian festival celebrated in the month of Holi). It is a peaceful place to where you will find some artists who plays Rajasthani folk music on a handmade instrument and the music will make you fall in love with the place. This place is similar to Ambrai ghat there is a walking bridge between Gangaur ghat and Ambrai ghat. There are many restaurants and cafes near Gangaur ghat but a small stall of pani-puri just outside the gate is a must try if you love street food. There is no entry fee to visit Gangaur ghat.



KARNI MATA (ROPEWAY)

The place karni Mata jii temple is basically a temple of Hindu religion located on the machla magra hills, near the Doodh Talia Lake in Udaipur. It enshrines the stone idol of karni Mata. Opened for tourists between 9.00am to 9.00pm. One can have a very beautiful view of whole city and its lakes from the temples. The special thing about this place is the way of karni Mata mandir is a ropeway. You can enjoy the beauty of green mountains during the ropeway. This place is close to lake Pichola. It is a best destination for family tour, every one can enjoy the ride of ropeway and visit the temple. The entry fee to visit the karni Mata mandir by ropeway is for a child and adult are Rs.36 and Rs.72 respectively. The ticket price for a foreign adult and child are Rs.350 and Rs.150 per person. And you wish to rent the entire cabin for you ride the price is Rs.400 per cabin.



SAJJANGARH PALACE

Sajjangarh palace is located on the outskirts of Udaipur. This palace is operational between 8.00am to 6.00pm Sajjangarh palace was the royal residence of Maharana Sajjan Singh. It is also known as monsoon palace and was built in 1884. It is said that the Maharana built it at the top of the hill to get a view of his ancestral home, Chittorgarh. It is located at one of the hill top of Aravli which offers panoramic view of the city’s lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside. It was primarily used as hunting lodge for the royal family and their guests. The palace, built with white marble, is located on Bansdara peak of the Aravalli hill range. There is a wild life sanctuary called Sajjangarh wildlife sanctuary.   the original plan of Maharana Sajjan Singh, was to build a nine storey complex, basically as an astronomical centre and to keep track of the movement of monsoon clouds in the area surrounding the palace, and also to provide employment to people. It was also meant to serve as a resort for the royal family. The entry fee for Sajjangarh palace is priced at Rs.10 per person for Indians, Rs.80 per person for foreigner and Rs.20 per person for video camera.



VINTAGE CAR MUSEUM

Vintage car museum is located just opposite to Gulab Bagh just few kilometres away from the city palace. This museum is owned by Arvind Singh Mewar. This museum is operational between 9.00am to 9.00pm. The museum has a good collection of many vintage cars used by the Mewar royals of Udaipur. It is under the HRH group owned by the current heir of Mewar family. Among the most popular car of the museum are the 1934 rolls Royce phantom which was used in the famous James bond movie Octopussy and the Cadillac convertible also The Vintage and Classic Car Museum has around 20 antique cars, including 4 Rolls-Royce's, 2 Cadillacs, one MG-TC convertible, one Ford-A Convertible, one Vauxhall-12 and several other exhibits like solar powered rickshaws and many more.[4] If you are a motorhead you are going to enjoy this place very much. The entry fee for Vintage Car Museum is priced at Rs.250 per person for Indians, Rs.150 per person for children.


BAGORE KI HAVELI

Bagore ki haveli is situated near Gangori ghat and Jagdish temple in the old city of Udaipur. This haveli is opened for tourist between 9.30am to 5.30pm. This haveli was built in 18th century by the prime minister of Mewar kingdom- Amar Chand Badwa (1751-1778). It has beautiful interior work of mirror or glass such as peacocks made from coloured glasses it also has majestic view of lake Pichola from the window of rooms. There are beautiful and historic paintings on the walls for example the painting of the Queens chamber. The palace has over a hundred rooms, with displays of costumes and modern art. The glass and mirror in the interiors are Haveli work. The highlight of the haveli is popular dharohar dance show that is held every evening which shows the culture and the folk tradition of Rajasthan. The entry fee for Bagore ki Haveli is Rs.60 per person for Indian adults, Rs.30 per person for Indian child, Rs.100 per person for foreign adult, Rs.50 per person for foreign child and Rs.50 for camera/video.



SAHELIYON-KI-BARI

Saheliyon ki Bari also known as the garden of maidens which is located at Saheli Marg Udaipur. The garden is opened for tourist between 9.00am to 7.00pm. It is one of the famous gardens in Udaipur. There are many fountains and kikos, a lotus pool and marble elephants. Saheliyon Ki Bari was laid for a group of forty-eight maidens. This garden is located on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake, presenting a green retreat in the dry lands of Rajasthan. It was built from 1710 to 1734 by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies. as per legend, the garden was designed by the king himself and he presented this garden to his queen. There is also a small museum here which has a lot of information about Indian history. It is a busy tourist place in Udaipur. The entry fee for Saheliyon-ki-Bari or maidens garden is Rs.10 per person for Indians and Rs.50 per person for foreigners.



MAHARANA PRATAP MEMORIAL

Maharana Pratap Memorial is a historic site that is dedicated to the great Maharana Pratap Singh and his loyal horse Chetak. It is one of those places which shows the lifestyle of Maharana Pratap. It opened for public is between 9.00am to 6.00pm. It is right at the top of the Moti Nagri, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake is a lifelike statue of Maharana Pratap and his horse chetak. The statue is 11 feet high, with a weight of 7 tonnes.  In this museum one can also, the weapon used by Maharana Pratap used in the in the battle of Haldighati between Rajput’s and Mughals in 1576 AD. Maharana Pratap Memorial and its premises are well maintained so that the tourists can enjoy the picturesque surroundings. The view from the hill-top is awesome. There is a museum showcasing the history of Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh including the Haldighati battle. There are also statues of Maharana Pratap's Associates-Hakim Khan Sur, Bhamashah, Bhilu Raja, and Jhalaman. The entry fee for Maharana Pratap memorial is Rs.20 for adults and Rs. 35 per person for light and sound show.
